Ohio Update

  • Let's start with PolitickerOH's Winners and Losers because this is kind of a fun one...
    Winners
    Ted Strickland
He has a prime time speaking spot at the Democratic convention and his approval rating is 60 percent in the latest Quinnipiac poll.
This may be a win for T-Shirt Ted, but he's going to be talking about the economy...which for Ohio is still in the crapper...so is it really a win for Ohio?
    Capri Cafaro
She's only in her first term and is already #2 among state House Democrats after taking the whip position when Whip Lance Mason left. Her quick ascension to this position and potentially 8 more years in the House means Cafaro will be a name to know in the years to come – especially if Democrats take control of the House in November.
Nothing says Ohio Democrat quite like the socialite daughter of a mobster...I'm just saying...
    Kirk Schuring
He got pro-quarterback Brady Quinn to do a fundraiser for him – guaranteeing free media for Schuring’s campaign and a helping hand from a popular Ohioan.
More on this one in a bit...
    Losers

    Ohio Democratic Party
The party has no faith outreach director, while Republicans are already working to shore up this segment of the electorate.
I just love it when people admit that the Ohio Democratic Party is a bunch of losers...
    Cuyahoga County Democratic Party
The largest county Democratic party in the state is torn asunder by the Dimora and Russo scandals, which are giving Republicans in Democratic northeast Ohio a local issue to run on and giving a counterexample to Democrats’ quick removal of scandal-plagued Marc Dann from office.
...and these guys are a bunch of losers...
    Rich Cordray
Yes he’s beating Republican Mike Crites by 18 points for attorney general, but after two runs at statewide office he’s still unknown by most in Ohio. Worse, his campaign didn’t even know that he took $20K from Dimora and Russo into his treasurer campaign funds – a half million of which have been transferred for his AG run.
I can't argue with this one either...

  • Kirk Schuring's Fundraiser with Brady Quinn: Again, PolitickerOH was on top of this story. And what a story it is...this is exactly the sort of thing that Team Schuring needed: a high profile endorsement and some campaign cash to go along with it!

  • Jackson Browne Sues OhioGOP: (Columbus Dispatch) This is what happens when you produce a good ad but didn't secure permission for the music... Keep your chin up, John, this is a sign of your effectiveness; just be a little more careful next time...
