Another Ohio Connection for Rangel

Release:
Mt. Vernon, OH – Rep. Zack Space based his 2006 congressional campaign on ethics.

On his website, www.zackspace.org, he wrote:

"I don't care if you are a Republican or a Democrat; if you don't practice the highest of ethical standards, you must step aside."

On March 12, 2008, he issued a press release that stated:

"The move to bring about the new [ethics] board began in 2007 when Space led the group of freshmen in calling for an independent ethics board. This came after an historic bill that banned gifts, trips, and meals from lobbyists passed the House."

On Sept. 14, 2008, the New York Post reported:

"For nearly a decade, Rep. Charles Rangel has enjoyed free trips to luxurious Caribbean destinations paid for by lobbyists from large corporations such as Pfizer and Macy's, who bundled their sponsorship cash through a small, New York-based Caribbean newspaper."

On Sept. 15, 2008, the New York Times called for Rangel to step down from his position as Chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee, also known as the tax-writing committee:

"This recommendation does not come easily, considering the New York Democrat's four decades of service in Congress. But Mr. Rangel himself has felt obliged to request three separate House ethics inquiries of his behavior. While denying serious improprieties, Mr. Rangel concedes that he has not lived up to the "higher standard" expected of members of Congress."

Also on Sept. 15, 2008, the Washington, D.C., publication The Hill wrote this:

"Rep. Zack Space (D-Ohio), who won former Rep. Bob Ney's (R-Ohio) seat in 2006, said the ethics process must be given a chance to review the charges before any action should be taken against Rangel. 'Charlie Rangel is a man of his word … we have to let the ethics process work,' Space said."

According to FEC.gov, Space has taken more than $20,000 in campaign contributions from Rangel.

Webster's Dictionary defines "hypocrite" as this:

"A person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings."
