But Beaupre thinks Krikorian may be overestimating Schmidt's problems within her own party. If John Becker has never heard of you, and you are trying to pass yourself off as a Republican in this district...
"I talk to the people who don't like Jean Schmidt, but they don't like her because they know her (personally)," Beaupre said. "The difference is that's not a huge percentage of the people who go to the polls."
One problem with running as a conservative: Krikorian voted in Democratic primaries in both 2004 and 2006, and has never voted in a Republican Party primary in Ohio, according to Hamilton County Board of Elections.
Also, he's donated $1,500 to Democratic candidates since 2006, including Wulsin, now his opponent. He says his campaign contributions were motivated by his desire to remove Schmidt from office, not active support of Wulsin.
Wulsin spokesman Kevin Franck declined comment on Krikorian.
Republicans, however, are eager to challenge his conservative bona fides.
"He may be a Reagan Democrat, but I don't believe he's a Reagan Republican," said Schmidt campaign spokesman Bruce Pfaff.
Hamilton County Republican Chairman Alex Triantafilou said he has no business campaigning as a conservative-friendly alternative to Schmidt.
"He's a person who is falsely passing himself off as one of us, and he's not," Triantafilou said.
John Becker, a state Republican central committeeman from Clermont County, said he'd never heard of Krikorian, other than seeing his extensive yard signs. If he's going to run against Schmidt as a fiscal conservative, Krikorian's welcome to join the Republican Party and compete with her in a primary, he said.Amen, Brother John, Amen...
"He had his chance," Becker said.
This is just despicable:
"The only choice is me," Krikorian said. "If you care about this country, and you're pro-American, the only choice is David Krikorian. The other two choices are a waste. It's politics as usual, nothing more than that. As far as I'm concerned, they're equally bad."Now,
