Re: the Bailout; Nancy Pelosi Destroyed the Deal

Nancy Pelosi has shown she is not a leader. The latest example is on this bailout bill. Now, all during the past 8 days, all we have heard is how the Dems were looking for Republican support. The reason, Dems said, was to show Americans the govternment was speaking with one voice. Many Republicans said, just pass it yourself, you have the votes. Evidently, Nancy cannot control her own caucus members, as many D's voted nay on the proposal. Also, she cannot concern her own greed for credit for her party, as she gave a speech filled with bile and contempt for the very people whose votes she needed: the Republicans. Witness the meltdown here:

Here is the text of what she said:
PELOSI: When was the last time anyone ever asked you for $700 billion?

It’s a staggering figure and many questions have arisen from that request. And we have been hearing a very informed debate on all sides of this issue here today. I’m proud of the debate.

$700 billion. A staggering number, but only a part of the cost of the failed Bush economic policies to our country. Policies that were built on budget recklessness when Pres. Bush took office, he inherited Pres. Clinton’s surpluses - four years in a row budget surpluses on a trajectory of $5.6 trillion in surplus. And with his reckless economic policies, within two years, he had turned it around. And now 8 years later, the foundation of that fiscal irresponsibility, combined with an “anything goes” economic policy, has taken us to where we are today.

They claim to be free-market advocates, when it’s really an anything goes mentality. No regulation, no supervision, no discipline. And if you fail, you will have a golden parachute and the taxpayer will bail you out.

Those days are over. The party is over in that respect.

Democrats believe in a free market. We know that it can create jobs, it can create wealth, many good things in our economy. But in this case, in this unbridled form, as encouraged and supported by the Republicans — some Republicans, not all — it has created not jobs, not capital, it has created chaos. And it is that chaos that the Secretary of the Treasury and the Chairman of the Fed came to see us, just about a week and a half ago. It seems like an eternity, doesn’t it? So much has happened. The news was so bad. They described a very dismal situation.

Henry Waxman called it a Republican bailout. Uh, gosh. Barney Frank is saying the Republicans "Killed the Bailout Bill." Uh, Barney, let me do some math for ya, since obviously oversight and math and such things aren't your fortee, or you wouldn't have poopooed the regulation and reform of Fanny and Freddie put forth by the Bush Administration and also by John McCain. Many from YOUR OWN PARTY killed the Bill. If your so-called leader wouldn't have gotten greedy and tried to take all the credit, then maybe, just maybe, she wouldn't have caused so much trouble. But no, not you presswhore Dems.

And for Pelosi and Co. to assert that Repubs were not willing to meet, as she did in the video, is preposterous. The original agreement for negotiating was for a dem and a repub from each House were going to meet together, for a total of four people. Then, Nancy and Harry Reid decided they wanted to stink things up so they came, and Chuck Shumer came, where the Repubs were outnumbered 9 to 2. The Repubs abided by the agreement, the Dems did not. Also, why the gang show of force?

And to Henry Waxman, who called this a Republican bailout plan, uh, Henry, who was trumpteting the values of this, who was the architect, according to Senator Harry Reid? Nancy Pelosi. At the presser announcing the deal, it was all Ds up on the dais, sir. So kindly STFU.

And also, Nancy, 40% of your own party members VOTED AGAINST YOUR BILL....Your own party wasn't behind you Nancy. Before you bring a bill up like this, make sure you have the votes of your own party, especially if you are going to insult those across the aisle you were olive branching the day before.
