Here is the full quote from George Voinovich regarding the selection of Sarah Palin as the Vice Presidential nominee on the Republican ticket.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator George V. Voinovich (R-OH) today released the following statement in reaction to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin being named Sen. John McCain’s choice for vice president:
“I’m pleased to see John McCain looked outside of Washington to bring a fresh voice to our most important debates. I had the opportunity last month to spend time with her at the 100th Anniversary of the National Governors’ Association in Philadelphia and I was extremely impressed with her poise and intellect. Gov. Palin has executive experience as a mayor and governor and is a strong proponent of life and family. I’m very excited that she’s truly a Washington outsider – we don’t have enough people in Washington who understand the importance of local and state government or fully appreciate the 10th Amendment. I look forward to working with her in the future to start to turn around our nation and our state. Ohio families are hurting and a mother of five may be just what it takes to put their problems first in Washington.”
The Plain Dealer didn't use the whole quote. Specifically, they scrubbed the 10th Amendment quote.
The 10th reads:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
We give Sen. Voinovich a lot of grief around here, but his thoughts on Gov. Palin are right on the mark and well worth putting in to appropriate and full context.
