RELEASE: Zack Space Votes for Wall Street

Release:
(Mt. Vernon)- Congressman Zack Space voted to pass a $700 billion taxpayer-funded bailout of Wall Street, yesterday. The bill had bipartisan opposition and failed by a count of 205-228.

"As I've been traveling the 18th Congressional district, people have been saying that we need real fundamental reform to turn this economy around," said former Ohio Agriculture Director and candidate for Ohio's 18th district, Fred Dailey. "This stop gap measure to save Wall Street billionaires doesn't do enough to help Southeast Ohio families and businesses now or protect taxpayers from having to support future bailouts."

In addition to provisions geared towards Wall Street bankers, the bill also increased America's federal debt ceiling by $1.3 trillion. That figure represents an additional $600 billion above the proposed price tag of the entire bailout package.

"Our economy has enough trouble without our Nation going further into debt," said Dailey. "This once again shows that this Congress is willing to spend today despite the increased burden it has on our children and grandchildren."

Following the vote, Congress opted to recess until Thursday.

"This is typical of Zack Space and his liberal leadership in Congress," Dailey stated. "They have once again failed to help this country when we need it most. While credit is drying up and average Americans are having trouble paying their bills, Congress unveils a bill that won't help us, takes a vote, and then decides to take a break before the problem is solved."
