Schmidt Named Ranking Member of the Agriculture Subcommittee on Horticulture and Organic Agriculture
Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Jean Schmidt (OH-02) has been named the Ranking Member of the Agriculture Subcommittee on Horticulture and Organic Agriculture for the 111th Congress.
The House Agriculture Committee oversees an extensive assortment of agriculture and rural development issues, including renewable energy, disaster assistance, nutrition, conservation, international trade; futures market regulation, agricultural research, bioterrorism, and forestry.
“I am very excited by the opportunity to further my fight on the importance of nutrition and the consumption of fruits and vegetables in this new leadership role,” said Congresswoman Schmidt. “Agriculture and international trade plays a vital role in my district and our national economy. This subcommittee will allow me to positively influence these important areas,” Schmidt added.
Specific commodities under the Subcommittee’s jurisdiction are fruits and vegetables, organic agriculture, horticulture and viticulture (the production of wine) and a variety of other issues.
“Agriculture is vital to our nation and our world,” Schmidt said. “My work on the Agriculture Subcommittee on Horticulture and Organic Agriculture will allow me to continue to promote U.S. agriculture around the world.”
