(WASHINGTON, DC) On Friday afternoon in the nation's capital, the Republican National Committee made a historic decision in electing former Maryland Lt. Governor Michael Steele its new Chairman, making Steele the first African-American to serve in the post.
"We look forward to being part of the bold vision for rebuilding our party that Chairman Steele will put in place to return Republicans to prominence in 2010 and beyond." said Ohio College Republican Chairman Jonathon Snyder.
"While the environment has undeniably tough for Republicans in recent years, we expect that a return to our principles of smaller government, solutions-oriented policies all around, and a commitment to requiring integrity in our elected officials will help bring us success in the coming years."
Snyder also reiterated his previous statements on the importance of winning back Ohio's youth. He stated that, "Michael Steele laid out a detailed plan for incorporating technology and new methods of communication to take our message to the youth of the nation in his campaign, and it is exciting that we will now be a part of implementing that game plan. At the end of the day, we must seek to engage college students on the issues that they care about, things like job creation, college affordability, and rising healthcare costs, and if we fail to seriously do so, we cannot be successful in Ohio or anywhere else."
