Portman on Debt Commission Fail

Statement:
With today's vote, the work of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform may be over, but the hard work to restore order to our budget is just beginning. The Commission should be commended for raising the level of debate, and for bringing forth a serious proposal to address our fiscal challenge – a challenge that becomes more dire with every passing day. Too often elected leaders have given lip service to our fiscal crisis, or worse yet, done nothing more than use it for political gain. But as we have seen from the Greek and Irish crises and the precipice upon which other EU nations currently sit, the time for politics has long since passed.
