Congressman Bill Johnson Statement on GAO Report of Waste of Billions of Dollars in Federal Governmen

Statement:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bill Johnson (OH-6) released the following statement regarding a report issued today by the independent Government Accountability (GAO) detailing billions of dollars of waste in the federal government:

“The report from the independent Government Accountability Office (GAO) makes official what many  have suspected for years: redundant and ineffective programs within the federal government are destroying our chances for fiscal sanity and are barriers to our economic progress. The report highlights numerous programs within federal agencies that have the same purpose, limited oversight, and no accountability to tax payers. For too long, Congress has refused to demand the elimination of federal programs that are outdated, ineffective and redundant. We should immediately begin taking a hatchet to the bloated federal government so we can start getting our fiscal house in order and stop burdening future generations with an immense amount of debt.”
