COLUMBUS – Today Gov. John R. Kasich issued the following statement praising members of the Ohio House of Representatives who supported passage of HB 86 (Slaby), legislation to reform Ohio’s sentencing policies. The bill passed 95-2 and now goes to the Senate for consideration.“I applaud Speaker Batchelder, Chairman Slaby and the 93 other House members who joined in passage today of sentencing reform legislation. By giving our law enforcement, judiciary and corrections officials better tools to administer justice, we can reduce recidivism, incarcerate offenders in the safest, most appropriate setting, and reduce skyrocketing corrections costs. These are commonsense improvements that are badly needed and I look forward to their quick passage in the Senate so I can sign them into law.”
