Niehaus on Stewart Resignation

Statement:
(Columbus) - Ohio Senate President Tom Niehaus issued the following statement today regarding State Senator Jimmy Stewart and his 20th District Senate seat:

"Senator Stewart has informed me that he'll be resigning from his seat in July to pursue an opportunity in the private sector.  He will continue to serve as majority leader until he leaves office.  I appreciate Senator Stewart's service to the Ohio Senate.  He has been a tireless advocate for the people of Southeast Ohio and an outstanding public servant in the General Assembly for the past eight years.  His participation in our caucus will be missed.  Senator Stewart will continue to serve his district and help lead our efforts to pass a balanced budget by June 30th.  We will announce a replacement process for the 20th District seat in the coming weeks."
Rumors are out there that State Reps. Troy Balderson (R-94th) and  Andy Thompson (R-93rd) could be among the possible replacements.

Oh, and as per usual, the Democrats are having a field day tossing lies about SB5...  Ohio Democrats must really like high unemployment and a bleak fiscal outlook on the future because they seem to support the ways of the past whenever they get a chance...
