St. Sen. Cates Stepping Down to Join Board of Regents

The Fairfield Echo has a staff report with some of the details, but State Senator Gary Cates has elected to step down from his position as a legislator and join the Board of Regents.  None of that really comes as a surprise as I have been expecting a move like this ever since E-Day's results were made official.

The fun is going to be who replaces him.

If I remember correctly, the Republican conference in the Ohio Senate will form a committee and ask the county party for recommendations and then they usually choose whoever they want anyway...

Let's run down some names of folks who might be interested or should be interested...

Greg Jolivette: recently defeated Butler County Commissioner, former state representative.

Corky Combs: soon-to-be term-limited state representative.

Bill Coley?  I think he is about to be term-limited in the Ohio House.

Tim Derickson just got to the Ohio House...

Roger Reynolds? Just throwing it out there...but we do need Roger to continue doing God's Work right here in Butler County.

Nancy Nix? She should be able to garner the support to pull this off...

Sheriff Spotlight is always good for throwing his hat in to rings that he ought to stay out of.....

Somebody nobody has heard of from the various Tea Party groups around will try to get some attention...

I'm sure I am missing some names...feel free to toss a few in to the comments section.

My Recommendation: I'd love to see Roger Reynolds or Nancy Nix advance...

Best Bet: Combs.
