Matt's Chat

Democracy takes time to do right. I believe it is better that Iraq have a Constituion that is well thought out and late than a Constitution that is on time but sucks. Who's with me?

Mark's Remarks

I could not agree more. If we impose strict deadlines on Iraq, we will leave them with at best a patchwork government with little to no teeth. However, I really think that is what the Dems want, so when it falls like South Vietnam, they can say see, it didn't make a single difference. We have to let this have its own timetable for development. We have set the process of Constitution, etc. until power is fully handed over. Now while we should not dilly dally, we should not rush either. That would be a grave mistake. We ahve to let the Iraqis have the debate and the conventions to figure out the shape of their future government. We did the same courtesy to Japan, and look at how they have prospered.
