Matt's Chat

I am gratified to hear that Japan will join the effort. They, of all people, should know what this means to the people of Iraq.

Mark's Remarks

Glad to see more countries coming on board. Of course, who better than Japan to know how well the United States rebuilds countries, and who better than Japan to know that it is a process that takes time. I applaud the Japanese Govt. and her people for being part of the relief efforts, and to providing so much help.

Remember, it was the United States who laid the groundwork for the powerhouse Japan has become in commerce. After World War II, we totally rebuilt Japan, produced a democratic government, and invited US industries to come and settle, and to teach the Japanese. It took a few years, as I recall, and I will research this just to make sure, but I believe it took years before MacArthur (who was named head of the Japanese occupation govt.) could leave, but when he did, Japan had an excellently written Constitution, a democratically elected parliamentary govt., and the makings of a huge industrial complex which has, as we all know, become a world power.

So, see what happens when the US rebuilds nations? Life invariably gets better. However, it takes time and money, but it will all pay off.
