Putin Wants UN Resolution Sooner Rather Than Later
President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that Russia hopes a new U.N. resolution boosting the role of the United Nations in Iraq can be approved before a donors conference later this month.
Putins' comments signaled a readiness to cooperate with the United States, which is reconsidering whether to push a divided Security Council to vote on its proposed Iraq resolution amid growing doubts about whether it would generate more troops and money to stabilize the country.
