Salute: Right to be Left

Our good friend Eric has decided not to continue with his blog, Right to be Left. We are saddened by this decision as we found some benefit from having had our discussions (when kept to the issues). We understand his decision and we support him in whatever it is that he chooses to do next, if anything.

Systemically, the level of discourse in this country has gone to the birds. Both sides, conservative and liberal, have managed to whip themselves in to such a frenzy that we place our personal feelings on the line. It shouldn't be so. In the free marketplace of ideas, we should be able to dig in to the policies and projects of both sides without crying havoc and letting slip the dogs of war.

Those of you who were expecting some sort of victory dance should know better. WMD is about bringing balance, not shutting out other voices. And as conservatives, we should all remember that it is important to have discussions with our liberal friends, lest we forget what truly is important...service to the American people.

We hope that someday that politics and politicians will realize that it isn't about smear campaigns and who is right, but rather it is about the exploration and execution of ideas that makes our country and our democracy great.

Eric, we salute you for having the conviction to put your ideas out there for the world to examine. We hope that at some point, we can open the lines of communication again.
