Rummy To the Defense

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has defended a memo he sent to senior defense officials questioning whether the United States is winning its global war on terrorism. Read about it here.

Matt's Chat

I'll disagree with my collegue and say that the leak of the memo is not to the Democrat's advantage. When you actually read the memo, you understand what Rumsfeld is trying to do...engage his team's creative and cognitive abilities. The American people won't see this memo as a sign of weakness, they will see it as a leader making sure that all the bases are covered and that the team hasn't missed or overlooked anything. I think the American people will realize that this memo was about making sure that the money is being well spent.

I will agree, though, that there should be an outrage about the memo being leaked at all. An "internal look" kind of message should be left internal. Exposing such thoughts could give the enemy a look into how our military minds think. And that could endanger lives for real.

Mark's Remarks

Of course, the Dems and liberals love this. A leader actually questioning his methods? What? Never....Bill Clinton never questioned lying to obstruct justice, Ted Kennedy never lets the truth get in the way of his diatribes....This is new for liberals. Well, if liberals had any true leadership examples left, or they possessed any leadership qualities, they would realize that this self-assessment takes place all the time. They would realize that questioning how to make things work better is what leaders do. I know this, because someone who I respect is a leader and catches flack for doing this. He always says we need to do more and need to improve. That is what leaders do. However, liberals will see it as a sign of weakness and doubt. They will use this against Rummy and Bush, but really it is an indictment of the bureaucracy set up by liberals in the Pentagon. Rummy has been pushing for more efficiency and pragmatic thinking, but it falls into liberal bureaucracy that was established post-Vietnam to handcuff the Pentagon. Really, this story is an indictment against the big government idea. That is what Rummy is truly railing against, not the progress in the war.

Also, where is the outrage, calling for an investigation and mass firings, since a personal memo was leaked? Is this not just as much a breach as the Wilson non-story? Where is the fair and balanced coverage? Oh wait, this is to the liberals advantage, just like Mr. Jesse Jackson and the Cali recall. he said hundreds of thousands were disenfranchised, and he would file suit if davis was recalled. When asked what would happen if Davis won, if he would still champion those (supposedly) disenfranchised, he said after a pause, NO. Well, that is the usual liberal double standard, but we must remember this as their standard procedure.
