Spy Games: In Novak's Own Words

The leak now under Justice Department investigation is described by former Ambassador Wilson and critics of President Bush's Iraq policy as a reprehensible effort to silence them. To protect my own integrity and credibility, I would like to stress three points. First, I did not receive a planned leak. Second, the CIA never warned me that the disclosure of Wilson's wife working at the agency would endanger her or anybody else. Third, it was not much of a secret.

The current Justice investigation stems from a routine, mandated probe of all CIA leaks, but follows weeks of agitation. Wilson, after telling me in July that he would say nothing about his wife, has made investigation of the leak his life's work -- aided by the relentless Sen. Charles Schumer of New York. These efforts cannot be separated from the massive political assault on President Bush.

Matt's Chat

Mr. Schumer, you are barking at nothing and spreading smoke and mirrors at a situation that is clearly NOT the scandal you were hoping for...try again when you have something.

Mark's Remarks

Well, they have the whole media to spout this crap, but wait, according to some liberals, the media has a conservative bias, doesn't it? If that were TRULY so, then the whole slew of scandals in which illegal files were leaked or illegal action taken (including Paula Jones Tax Records, Linda Tripp's Pentagon File, etc.) then the Clintons' corpses would still be swinging from trees. Where was Mr. Schumer's outrage when the White House engineered a leak that broadcast Linda Tripp's classified Pentagon file? Where was the outrage when they leaked Paula Jones's confidential tax records for smearing someone?

Besides, Mrs. Wilson has not been proven to be a friggin operative, according to most sources she was an analyst, and not subject to the federal law making it an offense to release operatives names. She was an analyst. If the CIA was so concerned, why did they not tell Mr. Novak not to run the story? He asked them. They merely said not to include her name. However, because we have a President who has weathered the storms of the Dems, and whose approval rating actually increased recently, in spite of attacks by the Democrat 10, we have to have the Mr. Schumer's making up scandals.

And Mr. Wilson, he shows culpability, he had his wife's name on his own website. Also, in an interview 9/29 on Good Morning America, Mr. Wilson said that his wife's identity being revealed did not pose a danger to her. This is a man who said in a speech earlier this year in Oregon that he was working to get "Karl Rove frogmarched out of the White House in handcuffs." No, he would not have an agenda spinning a story that was published 3 months ago now in October into a scandal, would he? He is a solid Clintonite, and hated Rove and Bush, as he has admitted. HE has nothing to gain, does he?
