Worse yet, the United States exported a harsher, more extreme version of its policy mistakes to developing countries, with disastrous consequences, said Stiglitz, who was chairman of Clinton's Council of Economic Advisers from 1995 to 1997.
"We in the Clinton administration did not have a vision of a new post-Cold War international order, but the business community did. They saw new opportunities for profits," he writes in the book.
Matt's Chat
WHAT?! The Clinton administration didn't know everything about everything? This is an outrage! I demand a full and immediate investigation. What I find really interesting is that while this guy says he didn't have the solution when he could do something about it and that Bush's plan isn't the way either, he didn't say what he now feels is the right plan. Same stuff different day with these guys... If you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the problem...
Mark's Remarks
This article sounds a lot like Cruz Bustamante during the California debates-'yep, we spent too much of your money, but we are gonna fix it by raising taxesand taking more of your money.' Mr. Stiglitz blames Clinton's lack of vision and overexuberance on his own interests for the 90s bubble bursting, but in order to still be able to ride on the Democrat and Liberal party circuit, he attacks Bush. Once you wade through the attempts at self-justification, what we have here is what I have said for years- Mr. Clinton was like a spoiled kid at the candy store-he didn't know what he wanted and did not have a clue how to get it. He chose reckless policy that MILLIONS of common people paid for with their jobs and their life savings. If Herbert Hoover was villified for the Great Depression policies of Get Rich Quick, the same should be said for Mr. Clinton. Mr. Clinton created the mass disaster, then left the Bush team to deal with it....and now blames Bush for the crash, and his little liberal synchopants and non-thinkers out there follow him.....sad, really, the level of personal denial people in his administration had/have. Of course they have to...if they actually admit to wrongdoing or accuse the President, Hillary or Bill might pull a vince foster or Ron Brown on them.
