New Resolution on Iraq to be Presented to UN

European Union diplomats say a new, amended resolution on Iraq may be presented to the United Nations Security Council Monday. Read the story here.

Matt's Chat

I think we can all agree that securing additional aid and assistance for Iraq is a great thing. My issue continues to be with the calls for a "realistic timetable" for the transfer of control. Iraq is at a dangerous point in its development. The transfer of full power must been done carefully. I recommend the development of a checklist which must be completed (and progress can be easily tracked as well) in order for a full power transfer.

Mark's Remarks

I applaud our allies Britain and Spain for trying to work through the UN via resolutions to drum up more support and assistance, yet I am still left wondering....where is the help that was promised by the likes of France, etc. who said they would help rebuild Iraq? Oh wait, they want extra conditions and to deal with an unstable, hastily assembled Iraqi govt., not the Ruling Council advised by the U.S. Why is that? Is France hoping to take advantage of an unstable Iraqi indep. Govt., to try to curry extra profits out of it? Is France afraid we will find more than the questionable resources France sold to Iraq for its oil, and possibly, WMD? Are the French afraid we will find the smoking gun of WMD and that they will look like the simpering idiots they are? I wonder. The problem with these people wanting a hasty turnover in Iraq are that they do not get it. Democratic Governments, unlike most of the ones represented by the UN's darlings like Syria, Libya, and other dictatorships; cannot simply spring up and have total and unrelenting control. They must be embraced by the people and formed by the people. That takes some time. We cannot put immutable deadlines on the progression of a nation. Should we have a working timetable? Yes, and I believe we do. The President has laid out the plan for Iraqi self-governance. And, they are wanting to progress. Shame on the members of the Unimportant Nobodies (or substitute Useless, at this point) for tying hurting the US and undermining us to helping the Iraqi people. Shame on the Muslim nations who are not contributing, but paying lip service to wanting to "help our fellow Muslims." Give me a break. Put up or shut up!
