Bush: "Enemy will be Defeated"; Sanchez: "...get pretty tough"
President Bush marked Veteran's Day with a speech about the actions in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the need for Americans to hold their firm resolve. Also, General Sanchez, in charge in Iraq, said that if the attacks continued, a get tough approach would be used. Read the story here.
Matt's Chat
Pulling out of Iraq is not an option if you want to win the War Against Terrorism. The cost may be great, but it is worth it. We can't afford to give the terrorists the Middle East without a fight. They are looking for a safe harbor, if we give it to them they will grow even stronger and will come for us directly again.I also believe that now is the time for getting tough. We should have been getting tough a long time ago. We need to take strong and decisive action in the Sunni Triangle and finish this thing. It is the road to total victory.
Mark's Remarks
First and foremost, the President is right on....if we pull out of Iraq now, if we turn tail and run in Afghanistan, we will be emboldening terrorists, even more than the small but loud minority of protestors that get way too much media coverage are emboldening them. We have to be firm in our resolve. We were attacked by an enemy that seeks global disruption, and sees a great opportunity in Iraq. We have to stand firm to make the world safe for democracy. It was a great reminder of why we are fighting on Veterans' Day.
Secondly, General Sanchez discusses getting tougher with the Iraqi situation if more help is not given by Iraqi citizens. Some liberals like to have it both ways: they accuse our men of being aggressors and atrocities, but then they say 'its about time they get tough and quit screwing around.' Which is it? Should we be tough or not? You cannot have it both ways, though you liberal elitists out there try, yes you do. It is a shame they are so twominded on everything, that their main candidates lack vision and insight into the war on terrorism, and it is not a "war", it is a real war, with no less than civilization at stake. The quotation-zing of the war is an insult to the men and women fighting overseas, and when I see the liberal elitists in the press and elsewhere do it, it is disgraceful.
