Under God at the Supreme Court
From CBS News:Faced again with where to draw the line between church and state, the Supreme Court was hearing arguments Wednesday from a California atheist who objected to the phrase "under God" in the daily pledge recited in his 9-year-old daughter's classroom.
Michael Newdow sued her school and won, setting up the landmark appeal before a court that has repeatedly barred school-sponsored prayer from classrooms, playing fields and school ceremonies.
Americans overwhelmingly want the phrase "under God" preserved in the Pledge of Allegiance. Almost nine in 10 people said the reference to God belongs in the pledge, according to an Associated Press poll.
Matt's Chat
Count me amongst the nine. This country was built on the concept of freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. But that's just my opinion...Mark's Remarks
As per liberal demogogery, they tend to misquote the Constitution, saying it says "a separation between church and state." Looking at Amendment 1, there is nothing to that effect. All it says is the Congress will not set up a state religion or hinder the free exercise of religion. Hmmmm......it doesn't say that we need to kick God out of the country to be fair, then, does it? Mr. N is a typical liberal, upset that he is on the fringe, and wants to make the court put his views over on the American people. It is amazing, liberals are talking about their rights and their views, but they care not about what the people want, isn't that a bit hypocritical?
I am with Matt on this one. Count me among the 9 in 10. Don't let the liberals attempt to bend and rewrite the Constitution because they want to make all us live under THEIR views.
