Senator John McCain (R-AZ) addressed the issue raised about him participating in a possible John Kerry Administration Wednesday night on Hannity and Colmes, of Fox News Channel. Mr. McCain said he would not serve as Secretary of Defense, VP, or at any other position in a John Kerry Administration.
Senator McCain also said that he was against the politicizing of the images, and called the statement by Edward Kennedy that "the torture chambers of Saddam reopened under new management" wrong and not supportive of our troops. He reiterated his support for the President, while still saying that we need to investigate the charges. He also supplied a tentative vote of confidence for Donald Rumsfeld, pending full investigation.
He also stated that the President was "his man" to win in November, and recommitted himself to supporting President Bush.
I must say, Senator McCain eased the growing doubts (aired here and in comments) I had about his loyalty, and I do now think he is just operating under his own conscience.
The Senator was eloquent, to the point, and in this case, right on.
Every once in a while, I miss one. I am thankful that this was one of those times, as Senator McCain is a good man, with an honorable service record, and someone to whom I must apologize for my lack of faith. There, I said it. I feel better.
