"In another preprogrammed campaign event, today President Bush said he supports a national sales tax. Then, under pressure to explain this terrible policy announcement, the president's campaign aides assured the press that Bush didn't really mean what he said. That's steady leadership? No wonder this president has lost credibility with the American people," said Kerry campaign spokesman, Chad Clanton.Chad, since when does "explore seriously" mean "I support this"? As a staffer for the most nuanced guy the Democrats could find, one would think you'd understand such a thing.
BUSH AIDES DENY BUSH MEANT WHAT HE SAID TODAY:
"Administration officials on Wednesday denied that President Bush is considering a national sales tax, a day after the Republican incumbent created a stir by calling such a tax 'an interesting idea that we ought to explore seriously.'"
IN THE PAST, BUSH HAS SAID WE NEED LEADERS WHO MEAN WHAT THEY SAY:
Bush: "In other words, when we say things, we must mean what we say." (FDCH, 8/9/04)
Bush: "The American President must speak clearly and mean what he says." (FDCH, 7/9/04)
Bush: "We need plain-spoken Americans in the White House... When we tell you something, we mean it. (FDCH, 9/4/00)
President Bush does mean what he says when he says we should explore it seriously. Debate is what makes this country great. Of course, the liberals don't really like it all that much...
