By Matt Hurley for the TIB Network:
MoveOn.org is launching an ad that attacks the Bush/Cheney campaign for not enlisting allies to put down the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ad.
"Karl Rove and the Republicans are up to their usual dirty tricks," said MoveOn PAC Director Eli Pariser. "Once again, they're funding and coordinating an outrageous smear campaign while denying their involvement and refusing to condemn it. John McCain knows what it's like to be on the receiving end of these attacks. Tactics like these should have no place in American politics, and, with one call, George W. Bush could stop them."
The Swifties ad was financed in part by the largest Republican donor in Texas, Robert J. Perry. Perry is a long-time supporter of George W. Bush, Karl Rove and Tom DeLay. Which I think according to MoveOn.org's bylaws, makes Mr. Perry EEEEEEEEEEEvil! even if he has no connection to HALLIBURTON!
There is no mention in their press release that billionaire activist George Soros finances MoveOn.org; nor any allegation that MoveOn.org is Democratic front even though the MoveOn folks claim that the Swifties are a Republican front organization because of Perry's involvement.
MoveOn.org's ad calls on the President to denounce the ad for its "false and misleading attacks" on Senator Kerry. Their ad, called "Swift Response", features footage of a young George Bush in National Guard Uniform, his medical form being stamped with his failure to appear, and footage of the young John Kerry in Vietnam. Which should really speak well of MoveOn.org's dedication to cleaning up "false and misleading attacks" in political ads.
Oh, the irony...
The Swifties have elicited a massive response from the Democratic Attack Machinetm, the Party of Lovetm and their Disciples of Doomtm. The message has apparently caused the Kerry/Edwards campaign more damage than any of us ever expected. The collapse of Kerry's "Christmas in Cambodia" story has lent a tremendous amount of credibility to the Swifties that the MoveOn.org crowd in the Michael Moore wing of the Democratic Party absolutely have to try to diminish. Good luck with that...
Mark's Remarks
You know, some liberal long forgotten used to talk about pots calling kettles black, etc., and of course, the liberals are so good at it. Look at their attack MACHINES, like the Morons at moveon.org, People for the (communist)American Way, People Coming Together, etc. These groups and other highly Democratic groups have produced smear ads distorting the truth, for instance the NAACP's ads claiming that Bush was responsible for the James Byrd murder. Heck, those guys were fast tracked for punishment because of George Bush; he didn't order anyone to kill Mr. Byrd. It is a sad and pathetic display that the Left cries foul when a group does what they have been doing, namely, getting high-income donors to finance ads against a candidate. I, for one, say it is about time that some more Republican 527s jumped up and joined the battle.
They talk about the EVIL (tm) right wing billionaires financing hate machines, but what about George Soros? This man destroyed the economy of Western Europe and made profits about it? The man advocates the destruction of American values, and the Left holds him up as some type of benevolent old codger who just wants to see justice done? Hello, this guy is one of those guys who destroys economies by manipulating markets, something the Left claims to hate (unless of course you are getting money from Soros, or your last name is Clinton and you make millions off manipulating the cattle market). And, really, if the Swifties are so full of it, why is the Left so outraged? Why is there such hate and vitriol for (gasp!) a diversity of opinion among Vietnam vets, that not all think Kerry is so wonderful? Gee, and here I thought the Left were the ones for free speech...guess if it is only for their no values, no backbone candidate or his shallower than a puddle of mud running mate.
