Union representatives fear prisoners will turn to violence to get away if they can no longer escape by conventional means.
They argue that allowing crooks to escape using non violent methods will stop dangerous situations from developing.

Matt's Chat
Here is my favorite part:"We could build prisons that nobody could get out of, but they would be unbearable," says the union.Of course, that is the point of prison...one would think. Making the punishment unbearable is one of those things that deters repeat offenders.
Mark's Remarks
Wow, prisons that let their inmates escape...What a novel concept....No wonder Old Europe is full of crime lords and tax shelters and money laundering...With penal systems like this, who needs Johnny Cochrane? Come to Belgium, the criminals' paradise....
