Former Wisconsin governor Tommy G. Thompson resigned today as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.Reminder to the fever swamp...NINE Cabinet changes occured between the first and second Clinton terms. This is nothing to be up in arms about...
In a letter to President Bush, Thompson reflected on his four-year tenure, which included the 2001 anthrax attacks, controversy over stem cell research and Bush's commitment to spend $15 billion to fight AIDS abroad. "We have successfully seized on these opportunities to turn tragedy into triumph and problems into solutions, making our country and the world healthier places in the process," he wrote.
Thompson, 63, ended his 38-year career in public service to join the private sector.
Mark's Remarks
I am ticked at Gov. Thompson. His comments about the terrorists attacking the US food supply were both ill-timed and extremely irresponsible, not to mention giving the terrorists ideas. Mr. Thompson should know a bit better...Remember that ol' WWII saying: ' loose lips sink ships.' If this has been a concern of Mr. Thompson's why in blue blazes didn't he do something about it during his tenure or mention it? Bad form putting that in his statement of resignation.
