By Mark for the TIB Network:
Dr. Condoleeza Rice, National Security Advisor to President Bush, had her nomination approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today. However, 2 Democrats, John Kerry of Massachusetts and Barbara Boxer of California, voted against the confirmation. (story)
Mark's Remarks
Yes, folks, nice to know that spirit of working together that Senator Kerry talked so much about is still alive and well. Apparently not.
Now, I am not saying that the two senators do not have a right to vote against Dr. Rice. Absolutely not. However, what are their grounds, that even their Democrat compatriots on the Committee did not see?
The answer: bitterness and political grandstanding. Boxer, who herself said "Iraq made commitments after the Gulf War to completely dismantle all weapons of mass destruction, and unfortunately, Iraq has not lived up to its agreement. ", called into question Rice's integrity. Should we question the Senator's integrity and honesty for being the only US Senator to go to the farce of a documentary Fahrenheit 9/11, of listening to the letter by Michael Moore urging her to protest against the certification? Boxer castigated Rice for semantics, including Rice's statements about the tsunami relief effort being an opportunity for diplomacy. Gee, more semantic word games...
Which brings me to Senator Kerry. Tell me,did he vote for Rice's nomination before he voted against it? Senator Kerry, who talked on November 3rd about healing the wounds of divisiveness, who then spoke out on MLK Day about supposed disenfranchisement in Ohio, where precincts didn't have enough voting machines. What the Senator fails to mention is that he is talking about Cuyahoga County, a Democrat county, so why would they be part of this disenfranchisement? Yes, glad to see that the spirit of bipartisanship Kerry was speaking of is alive and that Kerry is proving to be such a shining example. What a crock....
To Senator Kerry and Senator Boxer--your type of appeasement oriented, here is our checkbook diplomacy was rejected in November. Get over it.
