Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref (search), after meeting with Syrian Prime Minister Naji al-Otari, told reporters in Tehran: "We are ready to help Syria on all grounds to confront threats."You might be asking yourself what my post title has to do with this bit of news... Well, Syria and Iran are two countries that are feeling the effects of that election in Iraq. They are both state sponsors of terrorism. And they have been allies for a long time...this shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody.
"This meeting, which takes place at this sensitive time, is important, especially because Syria and Iran face several challenges and it is necessary to build a common front," he added.
Both Iran and Syria are in the midst of international disputes with the United States.
Observers said an alliance of any kind between the two nations — though they've had relations in the past — isn't a good idea.
The US recalled the Ambassador to Syria yesterday, so I'm not surprised we're seeing this sort of desperation move on the part of Syria today to find some relevence on the global stage.
How many Lefties are going to try to sell this as a Big Defeat??? Don't buy it people...
Mark's Remarks
The public declaration of an alliance is simply another victory for the Bush doctrine. The enemies of freedom and self-rule are openly revealing themselves. Rather than having to beat trees, we are calling them out directly. Syria is committing suicide by aligning with Iran. They are siding with the wrong team. Now that they are opening admitting to what many in the intel and diplomatic communities already knew is a victory. It directly tells the world who the enemies of freedom and prosperity are, and maybe will help lead others to come to their senses against this terrible evil of Islamo-fascism, a perversion of the Islamic faith.
