Our good friend Kevin B. of Title of Liberty has a lengthy, but well reasoned and stated
piece on the topic of religion and violence.
Based solely on the teachings of Christ sited by Forrest, and the lack of relevancy to most of the examples of arguments, it would appear that there is no justification, which is probably why, aside from personal beliefs, Forrest came to his conclusion. The implication then, and this is often reflected in commentary from the left regarding the religious right who support current American foreign policy following the attacks of 9/11, is that Christians who support war are being hypocritical to their own faith.
Such sentiment causes the War on Terror to be characterized by a left-leaning MSM in much the way that the terrorists would prefer it to be: as a Christian 'jihad' against the 'peaceful' religion of Islam. This gave me pause to think and study, because it went against my own instincts: I didn't (and still don't) feel that supporting the War on Terror is a hypocritical position for Christians to take; I just couldn't come up with a coherent rationale for my feelings off the cuff. This post represents my findings and commentary.
Well worth the time to read the whole thing. And our good friend PK jumps in to the fray in the comments...
