Civil Rights Commission Has Run Amok

No, it is not the evil conservative Mark who has come to this conclusion. It is a recently resigned member of the Commission, one Russell Redenbaugh [two links].

According the the former commissioner, this commission is fatally divided along partisan lines. It has become arrogant, an attitude instilled by former chair mary Frences Berry, who allowed gross mismanagement of funds and no auditing. In fact, according to Redenbaugh, the commission ignored four or five Government Accounting Office audits. They have not filed a Government Performance and Reivew Act Report since 1996, all violations of the law. Even after Berry left in disgrace after even other commissioners said she was too partisan, Gerald Reynolds, the new chair, has made little headway, though Redenbaugh has said he can bring people together.

So, why is this commission still being funded? Why is it still present in its current form? I myself believe it is fear. Fear that the far Left will rally the troops against Congress by playing the race card. This commission is an anacronism from the 1960s. It should be disbanded and reformed with a new mission and aegis. Redenbaugh agrees. In his interview with Human Events (March 21, 2005)Redenbaugh siad he felt the panel should be reformed only after the criticla civil rights issues are agreed upon for today and then decide what is the right structure to attack those issues.

However, without this divisive and often skewed commission, the Left would lose yet another voting bloc: those stirred by racial strife.
