The President has nominated John Roberts to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
It is an interesting pick. Roberts served as an associate counsel to President Reagan and clerked with Chief Justice Rehnquist. He has spent the bulk of his career arguing cases in fromt of the Supreme Court and has splendid credentials as a lawyer and a judge.
Chuck the Schmuck lived up to his promise to declare war tonight as he unloaded in the post-game presser at the Senate. Dick the Turban Durbin also has had some nasty things to say about this pick.
The President consulted with, if my memory serves me, 70 members of the Senate on this pick. Fred Thompson has done a splendid job in running this process so far. At this point, I see absolutely no reason why the Senate wouldn't confirm Roberts.
