House Leadership Update

It is looking more and more as if Tom Delay is not going to be able to hang on to his position.

Of local interest is that Rep. John Boehner is said to be one of the frontrunners to replace Delay. Acting Leader Roy Blunt is another name being tossed around.

Another name that has surfaced is Mike Pence. Pence is head of the Republican Study Committee and would be an interesting choice as well.

It will be interesting to see how long Speaker Hastert keeps this going...

AP News Alert:
WASHINGTON (AP) Officials say Texas Rep. Tom DeLay will give up his post as majority leader.
Well, I guess that answers that...

Mark's Remarks

Well, I am hoping for either Boehner or Pence. Boehner, because, obviously, that would improve the pub and the prestige of the Ohio House delegation, especially the Southern Ohio area. Boehner also is typically a known conservative quantity.

Now, back to Mike Pence. He would be a fascinating choice. He is a solid Conservative, voted Human Events Man of the year for 2005, and an advocate of both budget reduction AND immigration reform. He would be a boon to the conservative movement, and if he placed the right people as his leadership team, he could smack around the so called R moderates into stepping in line to the conservative agenda. While Boehner is a good peacemaker and dealmaker, if we are wanting a true fighter, then Pence is the right choice at this time.

For me, either one will be good. Though I don't think DeLay should resign, I can understand the political implications for his staying in light of the 2006 elections for House Republican members.
