Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said Thursday he was blindsided by President Bush's announcement of new details on a purported 2002 hijacking plot aimed at a downtown skyscraper, and described communication with the White House as "nonexistent."Because, naturally, this mayor who has been in office all of ten minutes (he was recently elected and wasn't the mayor in 2002) expected Bush to dial 2002 up on the wayback machine and let him know that his city was in danger.
"I'm amazed that the president would make this (announcement) on national TV and not inform us of these details through the appropriate channels," the mayor said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I don't expect a call from the president — but somebody."
The mayor also suggested that some funding from the Iraq war could be redirected to homeland security, including the protection of high-risk targets in Los Angeles. He did not advocate an immediate withdrawal of troops.
"I go to work every day knowing that we are a target," the mayor said.
Of course, we're talking about national security and we all know that we can't trust a Democrat with that...
As for the homeland security budget getting a boost from diverted funds from Iraq...I thought the Democrats WANTED money going over there for the troops. I remember all kinds of screaming about how the troops were worn out and had crappy equipment that didn't work. Of course, the mayor didn't advocate an immediate withdrawal, he supports the troops...he just doesn't want the troops to have the resources they need to complete their mission.
Also, the President doesn't have the final word on the budget...CONGRESS does.
Mark's Remarks
This clown must have went to the same school as that idiot Virginia governor who gave the rebuttal to the SOTU address. That clown took credit for accomplishments of his predecessor, as he was newly elected into office. This idiot thinks the President should call HIM to update him on security threats that were in play 3 YEARS ago? HELLO! The gall of democrats! Truly amazing. Of course, what more do you expect from the party that wants to detail to terrorists how we foil their attacks.
This mayor has no right to be so indignant. He has no right to condescend to this President any more than Jimmy Carter had a right at Mrs. King's funeral, any more than the good Rev. Lowery had a right to condescend at Mrs. King's funeral. The unmitigated stupidity of these people is astounding, and they actually think this is what wins the hearts and minds of Americans?
