Missile Defense Update

In this WMD Audio file, recorded awhile back (as an early test of technology that will be employed in WMD Podcasts - coming soon), I talked about the various missile defense technologies that were being developed. My research led me to believe that sea-based missile defense was the most likely to achieve success. It is looking more and more as if that may be correct...

The latest from the AP (via Breitbart):
The USS Lake Erie, an Aegis cruiser that has been modified for missile defense operations, used a Standard Missile-2 Block IV missile to intercept a short range ballistic missile off Hawaii, the agency said.

The goal of the test was to show that the target missile could be destroyed in the last few seconds of flight either with a direct hit or with a blast close enough to knock it down.
This test was a success as the Lake Erie managed to shoot down a missile in its "terminal phase."

Cool. Very cool.

Watch this space for another view...they tend not to be missile defense fans over there and if there is something odd about this report, they will find it.
