OK, let's see here....Chuck Hagel, a Republocrat, decides the surge is bad and decides to join the Dems on the Senate Armed Services Committee in supporting a non-binding resolution to condemn the surge, all the while saying this is to support the troops, to protect them. Meanwhile, the guy who they approve to head up the operations in Iraq, General Petraeus, says such resolutions only give aid and comfort and encouragement to the enemy and confuse the troops and weaken morale. Friends, we have here the true definition of Chickenhawk in Chuck Hagel. He wants to talk tough, but why doesn't he and his traitorous lib friends go ahead and do the Edwards option: Defund the troops. I mean, these people supposedly care so much, they want to end it all so quick and bring the boys home, then why don't they defund the troops. Make that stand on principle. The answer is, it is not about principle. It is not about caring for the troops or not wanting them to come to harm. This, unfortunately, is all about elections.
Chuck Hagel is a traitorous chickens**t who is afraid of losing his office. You see, more troop blood running in the streets of Baghdad because Chuckie wants to undermine the war effort doesn't matter to him near as much as losing his meal ticket, his office. Our soldiers not getting reinforcements and our soldiers being undermined by all the handwringing, leading to more emboldened moves by the terrorists does not matter to Chuck Hagel and the Lefties near as much as smearing George Bush (the liberals) or running from his approval ratings (Hagel the coward).
You know, there was a time in this country when principle mattered much more than one's elected office. I believe it was John Adams and later his son John Quincy who on a few occaisions made decisions that were historically correct but which cost them their jobs. They chose to make the right decisions for the country over political preservation. Abraham Lincoln could have capitulated in 1864, I mean, the war wasn't over, people were tired. However, he hung tough. In his case, he won reelection. However, he did not make his decisions based upon his political future. He made decisions about what was right for the country and what would be good for it.
Unfortunately, the political class in Washington is no longer about statesmanship. It is about political CYA. These liberals don't give a damn about the troops. They may claim they can oppose the mission and support the troops, but reality has shown that not to be possible. Chuck Hagel doesn't care about our men and women serving, he cares only about distancing himself from an unpopular war and President. Now, of course, the liberals will say, but wait, 70% of the country are against the war. However, ask them if they are for losing or winning, and you get a different result. There is a difference between being war weary and defeatist.
Unfortunately, the left and their allies in the drive by media want to make us the latter. Then, the liberals say, like Joe Biden--hey, this isn't a binding piece of legislation, we are just stating our opinion. Well, you ignorant moron, this opinion is not in a vaccuum. It will be covered by all the major networks, al jazeera, etc., the internet, and what can terrorists see this but as a victory? The sad thing is that liberals are one of two things: either they really are against the troops, or they are too dense to understand how this nonsense is seen in the world stage. One needs to look no further than Der Spiegel's headline to see that even the rest of the world is seeing that Dems want to surrender, that the West is seen as losing its sense. And Dems think it is Republicans who don't understand world views and how they are shaped!
Chuck Hagel and the Dems in Congress don't give a damn about the troops! They care only about elections and in looking to 08. People like Chuck Hagel, Arlen Specter, the Dems in Congress, they are the true chickenhawks, talking out both sides of their mouth.
for once, I think John McCain is the most sane Republican in the Senate right now, at least on this issue.
