SPIEGEL: About a half-million Mexicans migrate to the United States every year in order to try their luck there. Now the Bush administration wants to build a 1,100 kilometer (684 mile) barrier along the border.
Caldéron: It's hard to believe that a wall is now being built in Arizona and Texas only 17 years after the world celebrated the fall of the Berlin Wall. There are social and economic reasons for migration to the United States. It is a natural consequence of globalization. What is more, the North American and the Mexican economies complement each other in an ideal way: The United States has the capital, and we have the labor force.
First, these people don't migrate. They come into this country illegally to suck us dry. OK? They come here ILLEGALLY. They are not like birds on Wild Kingdom, for god's sake! OK, now that we have dealt with that, let's look at Mr. Calderon (wasn't that the drug lord in Miami Vice? Hmmm.....)'s answer. First, you jackass, the Berlin Wall was meant to keep people in. They were not allowed to leave their country. Your people can still leave your country, if they do it legally. Also, those who tried to cross the Berlin Wall were shot. Those who cross into our borders have water waiting for them, and are nursed by some well meaning but misguided groups. Don't you dare compare us to the USSR or East Germany, you vainglorious self-righteous jackhole! The reason these people are "migrating" is because you and your fellow Mexican politicians are more concerned with feathering your own haciendas than in fixing your economic problems! You are a socialist state with state owned industry out the wazoo, and what has your little socialist utopia produced, retard? It has produced poverty, disease, rampant corruption. How dare you blame us for a problem YOU should be concerned about? What country actually wants its citizens to leave and never come back? Come on now. You pathetic little huckster. And what you say about capital and labor is disgusting. All you are doing is holding back Americans whose jobs get taken by these illegals who circumvent the labor system in this country. And, sir, you are advocating for your people to be made into cheap labor slaves. You are a disgusting pig. And sir, speaking of walls, what about that huge fence you have built along your southern border, keeping people out. It is ok for Mexico to defend its sovereignty from foreign invaders but not for the US? Hmmm....I think there is a word for that....in fact I know there is...oh yeah, HYPOCRITE!!!! And from what I hear from down there, you aren't exactly being welcoming with water. I hear tales of rapes and murders and guns fired, but yet you want us to roll out the welcome mat for the refuse of Mexico, including: gunrunners, drugrunners, gangs, outlaws, and possibly Arabs who have shaved their beards and are taking on Latin identities. Oh yeah, that really is logical and even headed. Tell me, did you eat chihuahua crap as a kid while living under power lines?
SPIEGEL: Immigrants currently transfer about $24 billion per year from the United States to Mexico. This is Mexico's second-largest source of currency, after petroleum. Can the exodus still be stopped?
Caldéron: If the Americans would invest more here, the Mexican workers would stay at home. I told the American president that it makes more sense to build a single kilometer of road in a poorly developed Mexican state than to build 10 kilometers of his wall.
No, sir, what is needed is for the rest of the civilized world to cut off your addict ass from the free money you are given with no return. Mexico is a blight on the Western economy. They are a failed socialist society, and this should give us a glimpse of what life would be like under a totalitarian democrat regime. They have socialized healthcare, but disease, malnutrition, and starvation are still rampant. So much for socialist utopia, eh? What is needed is to tell Mexico to fix itself, or the money train stops. And, build that wall higher with electricity.
Now, we come to a series of answers that make you go: uh, what?
SPIEGEL: In some parts of Mexico, especially along the border to the United States, the drug cartels have infiltrated state institutions, the police and the judiciary. Nine thousand people died as a result of the war between drug gangs during the six-year presidency of your predecessor, Vincente Fox. The violence persists: The situation is comparable to that in Colombia. So, again, all of Mexico's problems are our fault. It is our fault their system is corrupt. It is our fault that the government is incompetent. It is all our fault. But notice, he said he can't do anything about the drug trade, but then he says this:
Caldéron: Sometimes things are even worse here than in Colombia. But as long as the demand for drugs remains so enormous in the United States, we will be unable to curb the drug trade.
SPIEGEL: How can your government regain control of the country?
Caldéron: I have started a major offensive against the drug mafia. We are already able to report our first successes. In my home state of Michoacán, for example, violent crime dropped by 80 percent in December.
So, he can't do anything about it, but he has done major successes and is doing a major offensive. Um, huh? I thin Der Spiegel hits it on the head with this question:
SPIEGEL: You've deployed the military and made spectacular arrests. But is this anything more than a show?
Caldéron: What's important is that we are once more taking matters firmly into our own hands. Now we are striking in Tijuana, on the border, and soon we will strike in all places that have been infiltrated by the mafia. It's a joint operation involving all the state's security forces. We're facing a long battle that will cost a lot of money, as well as lives, but in the end we will have to prevail.
Hmmmm...sounds like smoke and mirrors to me. This guy is a total moron. And, with these answers, given what we know about the federales and the Mexican army, it shows he is either insincere, stupid, or he just doesn't give a damn:
SPIEGEL: But you can't even trust your own police. They often work together with the gangsters.
Caldéron: We now conduct regular drug checks on police officers. We conduct psychological tests, obtain graphological opinions -- and we look into their material situation (to make sure they aren't taking money from the cartels).
SPIEGEL: You're increasingly relying on the military. But can't soldiers be bribed to?
Caldéron: I can't guarantee it, of course, but we control them strictly.
And what are President Calderon's solutions for Mexico? Hey, everybody, give us more money! See here:
SPIEGEL: On Thursday, you're traveling to Europe as president for the first time, and your first stop will be Berlin. What do you expect from the visit?
Caldéron: Now that Germany has the European Union presidency, this is an especially good opportunity to strengthen our trade relations. The Germans and other Europeans should invest more, especially in tourism.
Yes, come to Mexico, where you can have your identity stolen, be kidnapped by Zapatistas, get thrown into Mexican jails for not bribing the right people. Heck yeah, where do I sign up? What a friggin' dolt! Hey, I know: how about instead of using the seizing of private property and business and property to feather your own nest, why don't you privatize industry, and set forth the power of the free market? Hmmm? But wait, that means you might actually have to govern instead of rule. Damn, that makes it hard to earn a dishonest buck, doesn't it?
Until Mexico gets out from under the yoke of even "centrist socialists" its government, economy, and situation will continue to suck. The shame is, they have so many resources available. The problem is, they have bought into the myths of people like Castro, Chavez, Guevara, and others who promised a socialist utopian dream world but instead have produced nothing but a nightmare. You want to see what we would be like if liberals had their way, look at Mexico!
