Washington, DC – Congressman Roscoe G. Bartlett (R-6-MD) has reintroduced his bill, H.R. 77, that would change the IRS Tax Filing day from April 15 to the first Monday in November.I think this is a good idea...but it will never get passed.....
“This bill is very simple,” said Congressman Bartlett. “It would move the tax filing day from April 15 to the first Monday in November.”
“The first Monday in November not coincidentally is the day before Election Day,” said Bartlett. “I think it’s just common sense that the price we pay for our government – which is taxes – should be a top priority when Americans go to the polls to elect their Representative, Senators and our President.”
“As in previous years, many Americans will work and struggle to meet the 12:00 midnight filing deadline on April 15. The current filing deadline is about as far removed from Election Day as you can get on the calendar. The moment when we see the difference between our salaries and our take home pay is the time when we are most conscious and most motivated to judge the performance of our federal government. Moving that moment in time close to Election Day is one of the most effective ways to encourage more Americans to vote. I think that Americans might make different choices if they have the price of government in their minds when they cast their ballots.”
