Michael A. Fox: Loser

On Tuesday, I mentioned in a piece about the Butler County GOP that I thought Michael Fox got exactly what he deserved when the GOP decided not to endorse him. Today, I have one more piece of evidence as to why I think that was so...

The story comes from the Fairfield Echo:
The main traffic artery into Hamilton from Interstate 75 is known by many names: Ohio 129, Butler County Regional Highway, the Michael A. Fox Highway and the Butler County Veterans Highway.

Now, Hamilton City Council wants to make sure that the portion inside city limits once again bears the name of Butler County Commissioner Michael Fox, who recently returned to work after a life-threatening battle with an E. coli infection. The council voted Wednesday to rename a portion of the highway to reflect Fox's role in its creation.

"When you honor a man, you shouldn't take that honor away from him," Councilman Ed Shelton said. "I know how hard Mike Fox worked to get that highway here, and I think that's an honor we should bestow upon him."
Right about now, you're thinking "Okay...what's the big deal?"

The big deal is that the highway was renamed in honor of Butler County's veterans.

And check out Fox's reaction:
"God bless 'em, that's neat," Fox said when he heard the news. "I had no idea. What a nice surprise."
This guy reminds me of Robert "KKK" Byrd WAY too much. This is false modesty on display here.

As a general guideline, I'm not a real big fan of naming anything after living politicians...it just feeds their already oversized egos and inflates their over-emphaiszed sense of importance. I think it is the height of hubris to accept such honors.

Or is that just me?
