BizzyBlog has a story that is bound to anger you if you are one of those people who thinks that the oaths that one takes ought to mean something. It doesn't matter if you think that some part of the oath is stupid or not; if you take the oath, you had better be prepared to follow the very letter of it.I have no idea if they still do this or not, but when I was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Northern Kentucky University Student Government Judiciary Council, the oath contained a bit about having never participated in or acted as a second in a duel. It had to do with Kentucky politicans having engaged in such duels as a method of politicking in the "old days." I thought it was stupid...but I had never contemplated participating in a duel or acting as a second while I was in office.
And trust me, there were plenty of chances...NKU politics being what it was (is?)...
