"A Papal Remark the Left Can Embrace!"

From K-Lo at The Corner:
Harry Reid in a press conference today:
As the pope has said, it's a slaughter. Those are not Harry Reid 's words or Jack Reed's words or some Democratic operative. They are the pope. The spiritual leader of more than a million people says to everyone that's listening to his voice and he is — he presides over more than a billion people, and many more have great respect for him. And he is saying there's a slaughter in Iraq. Those are his words. And nothing good is coming from Iraq.

The president should understand that it's not just the Democratic Congress that is crying out for a change in direction. It's the pope.
I can think of some other issues I'd like the Democratic Congress to take the pope's lead on.
I've been waiting for this... I knew that some Democrat was going to latch on to these comments and exploit them. And K-Lo exposes the hypocrisy of those Democrats who would do such a thing...when the Pope agrees with them, the Pope must be listened to as an authority on All Things...just not the Killing Unborn Babies Thing...and the Gay Thing...and.....anything else that Democrats hold sacred that the Church deems profane.

I find this sort of thing to be as bad if not worse than those who view anybody who raises the possibility that perhaps the Vatican and this Pope could be doing more about solving their own problems as bigotry or being anti-Catholic. The Catholic Church leadership has never handled criticism well...and to be perfectly honest, it wouldn't surprise me too much if there is another Reformation similar to what is happening in the American Anglican / Episcopalian Churches...

I really don't want to wind up adding the Vatican beat to my list of things that I track every day, but this story and the reactions to it have been very interesting to me. And in a sense, I have felt somewhat duty-bound to cover the story since my own coverage was rather poorly received by some people whom I respect.
