Boehner Announces Art Competition for 8th District High School Students

Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) invited high school students in the 8th District to participate in An Artistic Discovery, the 2007 Congressional arts competition.

“This competition is a unique opportunity for us to showcase the artistic talents of 8th District high school students,” Boehner said. “I am proud to promote the artistic talents of our students, and I look forward to seeing their art work.”

The competition is open to all students in grades nine through 12 attending school in the 8th District. The competition concludes on Saturday, May 4th. An awards ceremony will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 5th at the City of Sculpture Office Building in Hamilton , OH . The first place artwork will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

All artwork will be on display on for one week, from Monday, April 30th through Friday, May 4th, at the City of Sculpture Office Building. A panel of distinguished judges will select the winning pieces. The judges are:
Sue Samoviski, President of City of Sculpture , Hamilton ;
Cathy Mayhugh, Director of Exhibitions at Fitton Center for Creative Arts, Hamilton ;
Jackie Quay, Site Supervisor of Fitton Center for Creative Arts, Hamilton ;
Pat Young, Art Department Chair of Lakota West High School , West Chester.
All art work is to be dropped off at either Boehner’s Butler County or Miami County district offices by Friday, April 27th. The Butler County office is located at 7969 Cincinnati-Dayton Road , Suite B, West Chester , OH 45069 . The Miami County office is located at 12 South Plum Street , Troy , OH 45373 .
