Two More Editorials Slam Dems for Hypocrisy on Ethics Reform

Via email:
For Democrats who pledged the “most open and ethical” Congress it hasn’t been a good week. Not only did one of their most powerful members admit to violating House ethics rules (see story in The Hill), but the Democrats’ lobbying bill is being excoriated mercilessly by their own members, outside groups, and editorial boards alike. Following on yesterday’s editorials in the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times, two more major newspapers write editorials this morning calling out House Democrats for their hypocrisy on ethics reform.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution Editorial“Democrats' ethics banner droops”

“Ethics, it appears, aren't quite as important to some congressional Democrats as they professed before seizing power in Congress.”

“After crowing early this year about answering the public's demand for "real ethics reform," Emanuel and his fellow Democrats need to prove they weren't talking out of both sides of their mouths.”

Miami Herald Editorial“Will Democrats pass anti-corruption test?”

“Congress is held in such low esteem by the American public that many an honest citizen will scoff upon hearing that lawmakers are debating a bill grandiosely titled ''The Honest Leadership and Open Government Act of 2007.'' Surely, some will think, this is some kind of hoax designed to appease critics without actually changing the way legislators and lobbyists swap favors on Capitol Hill. Surprise: It may sound like a joke, but it isn't.”
