WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) issued the following statement after the Senate immigration bill failed today:“The American people want their Congress to strengthen our border security and stop the flow of illegal immigration across our borders, and today’s vote in the U.S. Senate gives us a new opportunity to succeed in that effort. Speaker Pelosi and Democratic leaders have a responsibility to work with us to address this important issue. The early track record of the Democrat-controlled House in this area has not been good; for instance, House Democrats recently voted to cut funding for the border fence and impede its construction. But House Republicans stand ready to work with our Democratic counterparts to pass legislation that will strengthen our border and enforce our laws. House Republicans are committed to finding solutions to the problem of illegal immigration, but it has to start with strong border security.”NOTE: Earlier this week, the House Republican Conference adopted a resolution expressing opposition to the Senate immigration bill by a vote of 114-23.
