Oh, don't take my word for it. That ultra conservative rag the Los Angelas Times has this story...
Fueled by disappointment at the pace of change since Democrats assumed the majority on Capitol Hill, public approval of Congress has fallen to its lowest level in more than a decade, according to a new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll.No matter how bad things are under Speaker of State Nancy Pelosi, we all know things were much worse under Newt Gingrich, right? Wrong:
Just 27% of Americans now approve of the way Congress is doing its job, the poll found, down from 36% in January, when Democrats assumed control of the House and the Senate.
And 63% of Americans say that the new Democratic Congress is governing in a "business as usual" manner, rather than working to bring the fundamental change that party leaders promised after November's midterm election.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco), the first woman to hold that position, has also failed to impress many Americans. Only 36% approve of the way she is handling the job, the poll found.
In contrast, 46% of Americans in the current poll said they approved of the way Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia handled the job after he led the GOP into the majority in 1994.Well, maybe we can poke at the president some more, eh?
The poll also found continued public unhappiness with President Bush, whose approval ratings have been stuck below 40% since last year. And he still has better approval ratings than the Democrats in Congress...
...
Bush and his Capitol Hill allies have thus far managed to block every Democratic attempt to force a withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq , much to the chagrin of Democrats around the country.
The conventional wisdom in Democratic circles has been that they came to power with a mandate to stop the war and accomplish the rest of their destructive agenda. I maintain that the reason why Demcorats won in the last election cycle is that they weren't Republicans. No mandate there...these numbers prove that beyond a doubt.
Conservatives: Let not your hearts be troubled. We have an opportunity to win our party back and then bring the Republicans back to power and get things done. Hang with 'em...
