Ohio’s Chief Coal Advocate Files Necessary Paperwork to Seek GOP Nomination in Ohio’s 18th District

Newark, Ohio (June 20, 2007)—This morning, Mike Carey filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission to seek the Republican nomination in Ohio’s 18th Congressional District.

Carey shares the same beliefs of the families in the 18th District and the district needs a Congressman who represents those same conservative ideals.

“I am pleased to announce that I will be seeking the Republican nomination for Congress in Ohio’s 18th District,” Carey said. “My values are aligned with the values of the hardworking people of the 18th District and I know I am the best candidate to represent these beliefs.”

Carey went on to say, “As a member of Congress, I will be a true conservative. I will work hard to secure the borders, lessen our dependence on foreign oil, balance the nation’s budget and create an economic climate that fosters good jobs for the working families of the 18th District. Most importantly, I will work to keep our citizens safe, and I will always support our troops.”

For almost a decade, Carey has been president of the Ohio Coal Association, where he has served as Ohio’s chief advocate for the coal industry. His commitment to the working families in Ohio’s Appalachian coal fields led him to being named “Ohio Coal Man of the Year” in 2003.

Carey is a graduate of The Ohio State University and has a longtime commitment to public service. Carey attended the Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama, where he received his commission in the United States Army Reserve. He served Ohio as a commissioned officer in the Ohio Army National Guard from 1991-1999.

Carey resides in Licking County with his wife Kristin, and their five year old son, Prescott.
