Carnival Barking

  • The 81st Carnival of Ohio Politics is posted... Check it out!

  • AP News Alerts:

    Overnight:
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) Fred Thompson says he is a candidate for president.
    It is about time...
ROME (AP) Luciano Pavarotti's manager tells to The Associated Press that the Italian tenor has died.
Rest in peace. Pavorotti was a giant and made opera remotely interesting in this the age of rock and roll... He will be missed.

UPDATE: Rudy Guiliani on the death of Luciano Pavorotti:
“I consider myself privileged to have been able to call so gifted a man as Luciano Pavarotti a personal friend. I join the music-loving world in mourning the loss of Luciano Pavarotti. He not only mastered the art of opera, he took it out of the opera house and brought it to the people of the world. Throughout his career, he used his special gift to not only entertain and broaden musical horizons, but for humanitarian causes as well. He may be gone, but his voice and his art remain, and for that, we are extremely blessed.

“Judith and I extend our sympathy and our prayers to his family and his friends.”
    9:30AM:
WASHINGTON (AP) The Labor Department says worker productivity rebounded to a growth rate of 2.6 percent in the spring, the fastest pace in nearly two years, while wage pressures eased sharply.
Good news...too bad it will be downplayed by the 527 media.

    9:45AM:
KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) U.N. chief and Sudanese president announce they have agreed to hold new Darfur peace talks Oct. 27 in Libya.
If some success is achieved, and I hold out little hope of that, this could impact the discussion regarding divestment going on at this post.

    Noon:
WASHINGTON (AP) Sen. Larry Craig's spokesman says the embattled lawmaker is all but certain now to stick with his decision to resign from the Senate.
Go with that, Senator...the sooner you get out, the better...
