No, not Gail. I am talking about her Daughter-in-law, Amy Jo Declaire. Amy has asked for support in being elected to the County Recorder's office. She currently works for the Clermont County Board of Commissioners but feels so strongly about getting involved she is resigning from that job and seeking out the Recorder's position.
This office is currently held by Gary Himes, who IS NOT seeking reelection. Already announced for seeking the nomination for recorder is Republican Club President Mariah Votel, who is working hard to secure the nomination as well.
The Central Committee also heard a report from Team Schmidt about the Congresswoman's activities and what is going on in Washington. There was no Phil Heimlich siting.
Tina Meranda, the embattled Clerk of Courts, was at the meeting and asked support in her reelection bid. No primary challengers as yet have filed, but my sources continue to tell me of one who is seriously considering. We shall see, as time is running out.
Don Newman, candidate for Sheriff, came to speak. He is seeking to wrest the nomination from incumbent Dwayne Wenninger, who could not attend because of the press storm coming out about the Cheryl Fossyl civil suit case. Don has almost 3 decades in law enforcement, and is currently working in the Ripley Police force.
Rick Eagan asked for support in his bid for Brown County Commissioner. He is seeking to fill the term of outgoing Commissioner Perry Ogden.
Also in attendance and asking for support were County Treasurer Candidates Warren Waggoner and Connie Patrick. Warren has worked in Jackson Township for several years as fiscal officer and has done administrative work for several organizations. Connie currently works under outgoing Treasurer Gail Declaire and brings county experience to the job. Both are strong, positive people.
Scott Gusweiler came and spoke about the importance of all of us working together and about how big this 2008 election is going to be, and how we need to recruit more people. Scott is seeking to run in one of the judges non-partisan races, but has been a friend of the party for a while.
The Christmas party will be December 5, and Lincoln Day is tentatively scheduled for Feb.23, with guest Speaker former 2nd District Congressman and former Bush official Rob Portman, who is rumored to be interested in either the governorship or the Senate race should Crying Man Voinovich decide to do the right thing and get the hell out.
DATE CORRECTION UPDATE
Thanks to Brown County Republican Club VP Michelle Jowers, who corrected me on the date of the Christmas party. It will be December 6. Contact the Brown County GOP for the further details.
