I have it from multiple sources that last month, the Scioto County Republican Party endorsed Jean Schmidt for the OH-02 race. Capturing this endorsement is the surest sign I have seen that Team Schmidt has realized that she needed to expand her base of support beyond Clermont County. Rep. Schmidt and her campaign team have been focusing on repairing relationships and building new ones in areas of the district that haven't received a whole lot of attention before.Rumors continue to be floated that primary opponent Phil Heimlich will be dropping out of the race. If that happens, I fully expect that Tom Brinkman -- who has been exceptionally quiet about his political future -- to jump in to the race. Exchange the names, but the strategy will be the same: tick off as many fellow Republicans as humanly possible! It's a strategy so crazy, it just might work this time!!!
While we're on the subject of Mr. Heimlich... Did he actually turn a Veterans Day Parade in Batavia into a political event? Was Phil actually booed by Americans who didn't want to be bothered by politics on a day devoted to veterans? And was he actually barred from entering Clermont County GOP Headquarters after the parade because of this stunt? Sources say the answer to all of those questions is "yes."
